HIGH COMMISSIONER'S CABLE.

The Department of Industries and Commerce has received the following cabin from the High Commissioner, dated London, 11th July: — The mutton market is very dull. Tho supply exceeds the demand, and stock is accumulating. Tho situation is alarming. Canterbury are quoted at 2|d per Ib, and North Island at 2^d per lb. The lamb market is very unsettled, and there is a dull sale for heavy carcases of lamb. Stocks of jamb on hand are heavy, and are widely distributed amongst 'agents, who aye pushing sales. The weather lately has been \ery unfavourable to the sale of lamb, and .stock is accumulating. Canterbury lamb its quoted at 3id per lb. and North Island at 3jd per lb. The beef market is firm, and there is a better demand for beef. New Zealand hinds arc quoced at 4^d per lb, and fores at 3d per lb. The butter market is steady, and holders are firm. Choicest New Zealand is quoted at 106s per cwt; Danish, at 112s per cwt.; and Siberian, at 102s per cwt. A question is to be asked in Parliament concerning the excessive moisture- in New Zealand butter. The cheese market if firmer. New Zealand is quoted afc 60s per cwt., and Canadian at 58s per cwt. The hemp market ia bfceady, and holders are firm, but there is little demand. New Zealand good fair on spot is quoted at £23 10s per ton ; New Zealand fair grade on P)pot. £22 10s per ton ; fair current Manila on spot, £23; July- August shipments New Zealand good fair, £23; New Zealand fair grade, £25: and fair current Manila £22 10s The Manila output is 25.000 boles. The cocksfoot market is very dull. Tho gum market is quiet. Ordinary (o fair three-quarter scraped is quorod at 1655: fair half-scraped, 105s: brown fair, hulf t-o three-quarter .scraped, 90s ; brown picking-J, common good, 40s; bush, fair to good, pale and amber, M-raped, 140s. The wool market is firm, bui there are no signs of excitement. There is a general and aethe demand at opening rates.
