A MISSING MAN.

A young man named Hugh Cockrell has been missing from Otaki since Friday. He is a cattle musterer, and it appears that 011 Friday, about midday, he and a man named Jucld were • engaged in driving stock through the Otaki Gorge. Some of the cattle broke loose, and Judd proceeded to round them up. When he returned, he found Cockrell missing, and the other cattle dispersed. The matter was reported to the police on Saturday night, and they, with about 100 residents, went out to search for the man. The country was scoured yesterday without avail. Coukrell is only 22 years of age, and is said to have suffered from a weak heart. Cockrell was for some time in the Otaki branch of the Bank of Australasia, but left owing to his health, and later on, entered the services of the Campbell Land and Timber Company as clerk. He is extremely popular, being of a quiet and assuming nature, and general regret is bajing. expressed here with his aged mother, and brother and sisters. SEARCH STILL UNSUCCESSFUL.. [By TELEGHAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] OTAKI, This Day. Search parties 'scoured the hills today, but so far without success. It is feared that an accident has befallen Cockrell, as it js said he knows the country fairly well," and tho locality abounds with streams, which, if well, he would doubtless follow;. The weather continues fine. Later news says that a fire has been noticed on the back hills, but it is thought that Cockrell had no matches. A party lias gone to the scene of the fire. The country is extremely rough, and I the parties are having bad times. Arrangements are being made to postpone Wednesday's hockey matches. and concert, to have been held to-morrow.
