AUCKLAND CHAMPIONSHIPS.
SATURDAY'S RESULTS. [BY TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THE PORT.] AUCKLAND, 10th July. The Auckland Provincial Boxing Championships under the auspices of the Northern Boxing Association, were held this afternoon in the Opera House. Following were the results: — BANTAM WEIGHTS. The e>emi-final tontestanls were D. O'Brien and E. O'Meara. In the first round O'Meara drove O'Brien to the floor with a solid left-hander. The second round opened tamely, O'Brien being twice cautioned for alleged foul tactics, which were repeated a third time, and the referee awarded the fight to O'Meara. Little boxed a bye with Boyd. MIDDLE WEIGHT. Pooley and Miller had a solid go. In the second round, Pooley ended Miller's prospects with a solid right-hander, the referee slopping the fight to save an absolute knocU-out. Manley boxed a bye with Tom Leefc. LIGHT WEIGHT. Craig and Singer contested the semifinal. Singer had a good lead at the end of the first round, but in the second round Craig landed a wicked lefthander, which sent Singer very groggy, and though he fought back gamely, he had to admit defeat. Ross boxed a bye with Armstrong. FINALS. FEATHER-WEIGHTS. Trezise v. M'Neill. — The latter won after one of the best' contests seen in the amateur class. HEAVY WEIGHTS. "Gunner" Moore v. Pearce. — In the tl<ird round, Pearce went down Moore hit him while ho was on his knees, and lost the fight on tho foul. MIDDLE-WEIGHTS. Macley (Otago) v. • Pooley. — Manley knocked Pooley out shortly after the start of the second round. Lia^lT WEIGHTS. Craig v. Ross. — The pair put up a fast and interesting contest, an extra round h:id to be fought, Ross getting the verdict after a- very even j>o. « BANTAMS. O'Meara knocked out Little, the present holder, after a minute's fighting. : [BY TELEGRAPH PRESS ASSOCIATION.] ! AUCKLAND, lOLh July. The team to represent Auckland in the New Zealand championships at Dunedin will comprise the champion of each class.
