The cjclonie movement at 0 a.m. was centred over tlie Bay of Plenty, and causing a heavj eastetly gale with tremendous seas at East Cape, and strong easterly winds on tho east; coast of the Nortli Island. South-east-erly winds, strong to gale, prevailed thence to Cape Campbell and Hokitika, and heavy rain lias fallen in most parts of the North Island, and misty rain in the extreme south, where in the night a hard frost was also experienced.

At 9 a.m. the following forecast was issued to: the subsequent 21 hours :- Winds.— Southerly winds, strong to gale are piobable northward of Auckland, and south-easterly, increasing strong to gale, especially on the east coast between Lytteltou and Cape Egmont; moderate to strong southerly winds elsewhere soon. Baromete^r.— ltise fast over the North Island, and steadily elsewhere soon. Sea. — Very heavy between East Cape and Kaikoura, and increasing soon on all western co.isd; considerable eveiywhere else. Tides. — Very high between East Cape and Kaikoura, and increasing on all western coast; moderate all other ports. Rain.— Heavy ram is probable and rivers flooded on the cast coast after ten hours between East Cape and Banks Peninsula, and showery -weather generally followed by colder v eather.
