[press association.] COMMITTED FOR TRIAL. CHRISTCHURCH, 9th July. Frederick Marshall, ex-manager of the United Farmers' Coal Company, was charged at the Police Court to-day with on or about 27th January destroying the ledger and cash book with intent to defraud the company. Accused reserved his defence, and was committed for teial. Accused was also cited on three charges of failing to account for moneys received on behalf of the company. THE RECENT FIERY TALK IN CHRISTCHUROH. CHRISTCHURCH, 9th July. Opinions expressed by a number of people in town to-day, regarding some of the statements and threats made by several speakers /at the meeting of unemployed on Thursday night, were in the direction that something should be done by the proper authorities to make an example of those who use language that may be fairly held to constitute an incitement to breaches of the peace. To ignore or overlook some of the strong language used was held by some to be almost tantamount to aiding and abetting those who at least suggest recourse to unlawful methods. iyVERCARGILL TRAMWAYS. At n meeting of the Town Council and other local bodies to-night, it was resolved to recommend the various bodies to ask the ratepayers for £75,000 to instal it, system of electric tramway;-, provided Sir J. G. Ward, the holcler of the concessions, accepts £1100 for hit. rights.
