ACCIDENTS AND FATALITIES.

At the inquest concerning the death of Robert Henry Woodhoube, found dead in Cathedral-square late last night, from a gunshot wound, the evidence showed that the engine-diivers in the Tramway Board's shed heard a shot about two minutes after deceased had fcaid "goodnight." The body was subsequently found lying across the pavement, and a gun lying beside the body. Witnesses who saw the position of the body and the gun are of opinion that the occurrence which caused deceased's death was incidental. The owner of the gun stated that he had discarded it bocausc^ it had onte accidentally gone oft. The mechanism of both barrels worked easily, and had been attended to by a gunsmith in order to reduce the ease wherewith it went oft. The gun was fifteen years old. and was "all to pieces." Deceased, when it was loaned to him, undeitook to have it mended. The ooronev tried the "pull-olis," and remarked that, if bumped hard on the pavement, the gun would probably go oil. The owner of the gun staled that deceased used a string on the gun as a Fling fur carrying the gun on his back. The^ coroner gave a verdict as follows : — "That deteased came to his death by a gunshot wound, but there v.is no evident e to show whether it wi'h accidental or otherwise." WAXGANUI, Bth July.
