PRESENTATION FROM RAILWAYMEN.

TO MR. T. ARTHUR. . A large number of members of the Railway Department gathered together yesterday evening, the occasion being the presentation of a souvenir to Mr. T. Arthur, late traffic superintendent of the North Island, who is retiring after fortjfour years' service. The presentation was made by the Minister of Railways (Hon. J. \. Millar), who said he regretted that they were losing such an efficient officer. He had spent a lifetime in the service, and by his experience, ability, and application, had assisted to bring the Railway Department up to its present high position. Mr. Arthur had been for the past eight years traffic superintendent of the North Island, and those who had the pleasure of working with him felt it incumbent on them to give him some slight recognition of appreciation of his conduct towards them. Mr. Arthur's courtesy and consideration had endeared him to the general public, and he (the Minister) thought he was safe in saying that Mr. Arthur left the service without a single enemy. (Applause.) The souvenir look the form of a silver salver and a silver tea-pot, and on handing it to Mr. Arthur, the Minister, on benalf of the staff, expressed the hope that he wourd live long to eniov hie well-earned rest.
