ASSOCIATION.
WELLINGTON v. TARANAKI. All Association matches will be postponed to-morrow, with the exception of the V.M.C.A. A v. Marist Brothers A, junior second division match, to be played as a "curtain-raiser," starting at 1.45 p.m., on the Newtown Park. The event of the afternoon will be the Wellington v. Taranaki Brown Shield challenge match, commencing at 2.45 p.m. Welington has been called upon to defend its title to the Brown Shield, and it is anticipated that a hard and willing encounter will take place. Taranaki will be represented by the, following players : Goal, C. W. Carncross ; backs, V. A. Stapleton (captain, right), H. Bodle (left); halves, A. Hocken (right), T. Nicholls (centre), T. M'lnnes (left) ; forwards, J. Smart (outside right), 11. Collingwood (inside), H. Scholefield (centre), S. Eggleston (inside left), B. Gwillim (outside). The team is said to be "the most powerful Taranaki has ever put on the field." Wellington's representatives will be : Goalkeeper, Oldnall (Rovers) ; backs, right Cross (St. John's), left Hall (Thistle) ; right - half, Kerschberg (Swifts)- centre-half, J. Taylor (Diamonds, captain) ; left-half, Bethell (Rovers) ; outside right, Smallbone (Ramblers) ; inside right, Scott (Swifts) : centre-forward, W. .Gibson (V.M.C.A.); inside left, TimpeVley (V.M.C.A.) ; outside left, j. Reddy (Diamonds). Emergencies : Back, W. Roberts (Diamonds) ; forwards, A. Lowe (Diamonds) and J. Ash (Wanderers). The Taranaki men arrived from New Plymouth last night, and during their stay in Wellington will be the guests iof the local association. To-morrow evening, after the match, both teams are to be entertained at dinner at the V.M.C.A. by Mr. H. N. Holmes.
