OVERCROWDED TRAMS.
TO THE EDXTOU. Sir,— Being a con&tant traveller on the Kilbirnie tramway allow mo to say a few words on the way these trams are overcrowded. In fact this is a subject on which the general opinion can be only one. Take, for instance, any time between 12 p.m. and 2 p.m. and 4.45 to 6.15. Now, Mr. Editor, it is almost impossible for one getting on at Courtenayplace even to board a car' much less obtain a seat. On Saturday I was compelled to allow no fewer than three trams go by, these b-sing simply crowded, there being sixteen and seventeen persons in each compartment. Nor is this by any means an isolated case, and yet *I believe the palace cars are supposed to be limited to 60 passengers. It in also a well known fact that this sections easily brings in the largest returns on the whole tramway service, and is also the most neglected by the City Council. Were it managed by a private company I have not the slightest doubt that there would be no ground for complaint. It is quite time that someone took an active interest in the matter, and who ever it is, will not fail to have the unanimous support ot every resident ia Kilbirnie. I am, etc., • . A.H.H.
