Sharp frosts were experienced in the southernmost districts, hut elsewhere though damp and cold, the humidity of the atmosphere prevented frost on tin around. Weathei.— B, blue sky, be the atmosphere clear or heavy; C, clouds, parsing clouds; D, drizzling rain; F, loggy; G, gloomy, dark weather ; U, hail ; L, lightning ; M, misty ; O, overcast, the whole sky covered with thick clouds; P, passing showers; \i, squally, R, rain, continued lain; S, snow; T, thunder; U, ugly, threatening appearance. FORECAST. At 9 a.m. the following forecast was issued fo: the subsequent 21 hours :- Winds.— Northerly winds, moderate to strong prevailing northward of Napier and New Plymouth, and increasing strong to gale from the same direction probably elsewhere after fiom 10 to 1G hours. Barometer.— Fall slowly everywhere. Sea.— Considerable between Castlepoint and Kaikoura, and on the southern side of Cook Strait ; modei ate elsewhere. Tides.— Good on, the west coast of the South Island, also on the southern side of Cook Strait, and moderate all other ports. Rain is probable southward of Castlepomc and Kawhia.
