NEW, ZEALAND METROPOLITAN CLUB. [BY TELEGRAPH — SPECIAL TO THE POST.] CHRISTCHURCH, This Day. Tho report and balance-sheet presented at the annual meeting .of the New Zealand Metropolitan Trotting Club last evening, illustrates in the mct&t convincing manner the remarkable progress that the sport is making. Tho club began its year with a ca?h balance of £2846, and the actual leceipts were £25,483, tho totahsator providing £10,642 and bookmakers' fees the respect-able sum of £3983. The club ga-ve away £13,133 in stakes, and shows a cash balance of £5390 on the year's working, while the total &urn in hand is about £9000. The success of the club in the past ten or fifteen years has been amazing, and the chairman was able to refer with pride to tho fact that larger slakes are given only by the Metropolitan Racing Cfub^. The meeting of members, recommended the committee to take fteps to reduce the size of fields in the Lady's Bracelet races. .Some of the races of this class in Chri.stclnirch recently having attracted fields of anything \ip to foily hoisos.
