INDUSTRIAL CASES.
XAPIEK, This Day. A number of industrial cases came before the Magistrate's Court to-day. George Douglas, for failing to claim overtime under the Bakers' Award, had judgment given against him for -62. Henry Bodley. contractor, for a breach of the Drivers' Award, was fined £5. Two carters, for accepting 8s per clay instead of *Li 8s 6J. per week, werp each fined £2. William Ward, building contractor, was flnsd £5 for breach of the Drivers' Award, and £10 for breach of the Carpenters' Award. The Union Steam Ship Co 7 »•-■=->■ was fined £5 for breach of t] Ifl ~-f Labourers' and Stevedores' -\\ • i engaging labour at othei than the proper \place, and six men wore fined 10s each for accepting work from the company at a wrong place. The Union Company was charged with paying for 1£ hours' overtime when two hours should have been paid for. It xvds sbowii that the company had, in the first instance, misread tho award, but had subsequently paid the proper amount. Judgment was given for the defendant company. In a case in which the company was charged with employing two nonunionists when unionists were available, the Magistrate held that the circumstances were exceptional, and the company had acted reasonably. »
