LARGE CHARITY BEQUESTS.
« Bequests amounting to over £70,000 have been left for charitable purposes by Mrs. Lucy Jane Grice, of Broa.dstone, Forest-uoad, Sussex, whose will was proved on 18th May. The testatrix, who was the widow of Mr. Edwin Grice, civil engineer and deputy-lieutenant for Monmouthshire, left estate of the value of £174,386, reports the Chronicle. To Miss Emily Cooper, who resided with her, Mrs. Grice left £12,000 and all her dogs and birds, "in full trust that she will carefully tend to and provide for them," for which purpose she receives £50. The charitable bequests include the following :—£sooo: — £5000 to Newport and Monmouthshire Hospital ; £1000 each to Newport (Mon.) .Almshouses, West Bromwich District Hospital, Miss Agnes Weston's Sailors' Rests, Portsmouth Soldiers' Institution, Winchester and Bullord Soldiers' Homes, Royal Society tor the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children, Dr. Barnardo's Homes, National Anti-Vivisection Society, Church Missionary Society, British and Foreign Bible Society, Reigate and Redhill Cottage Hospital. Four other institutions receive £500 each ; there is £500 for the poor of Newport, £250 for the poor of Reigate, £100 for the poor oi Ellacombe, Torquay, and bequests varying horn £100 to £10 to tiie servants of Mrs. Grice. The residup of her property, amounting to o\pr £50,000, Mrs. Grice left to be applied lor a scheme she had formulated lor the benefit of distressed -ladiejj,
