BARE LEARY AND WILLIAMS. LOOKING FOR WORK.

TO THF EDITOK. Sir, — Having road "Labourer's" letter on No Work, I think he is all at sea in some of his remarks. Now, he talks about the single man not going in tho country. What encouragement do they get if they do take up "bluey" and go ? If they go, and tramp, ancl sleop in shanties, or sheop-pens, nowadays, they are liable to como up before the magistrate on a vagrancy charge. Thece are hundreds of young follows willing to go, but as things have changed since tho days whon "Labourer" took up his swag, | they run a risk. Let the Government , start legitimate works. Theft you would ■ see how soon these men would do "a get" from tho oity, but at present there are a good few who have been sent on a wild goose-chase, not only by the Government, but by some of the union officials. I quite agree with "Labourer's" remarks about beer shops and other places of amusement. Ho must have a very good wife, as 75 per cent, of the women nowadays only think of to-day, not to-morrow. What is the cause? Simply that there are too many in the factories who, when, they become marriageable, are not fit to take that .position. Yon look afc some of them in these places, and see how thoy dress. They would . not take tho trouble to continue having j lessons on housework. Oh, dear, no. All j they think, about is x dancing' and dress. I think, sir, if there was a law m^de for some firms not to employ female labour to do men's work thero would bo more domestics and not so many unemployed men about. There would also bo no need for immigration. — I am, etc' ANOTHER LABOURER.
