The man Attwell has been sentenced t^ twelve months' imprisonment in connection with the death of the girl Langdale by poison. The girl, in a fit of despair over opposition raised to her marriage, committed suicide by taking strychnine. Attwell, her lover, on hearing of the girl's death, also poisoned himself, and was for some time in a uritioal condition. At the inquest on Langdale tho evidence showed that on one occasion she and Attwell went to the river, intending to drown themselves together. They sat for hours waiting' for darkness, but the moon would not go down.
