SOMERSET MATCH. AUSTRALIANS WIN.

Somersetshire was resumed this morning on a drying and difficult wicket, and in gloomy weather, and after an indifferent showing on both sides, resulted in favour of the visitors, with two wickets to spare. About twelve hundred persons were present. Carkeek fielded for tyBraund and Eobson continued the county's second innings. The former gave a sound, skilful display. He was nearly run out when he had made 38, bub Carter mistielded the ball. The fourth wicket fell at 73, and the seventh at 88. The innings lasted 145 minutes, and yielded 111 runs. 'After lunch the Australians went in for the second time. The wickets fell rapidly. Bardsley succumbed to the third ball. Noble was taken low down in the slips in the second over, and Biftund caught Trumper brilliantly with one hand in the third over. Three wickets for 7. M'Alister batted fifty minutes for his total. Gregory, afc the same time, played resolutely.. He was strong on the leg-side. He lost his wicket by playing forward to Greswell. He hit three fourers and throe threes. Armstrong was caught off a powerful j return. Six for 54. Two more wickets j fell before the Australians secured the i victory, with the score at 68. Only two players in each team secured double figures during the day. ; Armstrong suffered from a weak leg. Noble and Gregory are both suffering from the climate.
