<». [B* Tkugbaph.—SraciAL to Thb Post.] GREYTOWN, This Day. The Greytown Town Lands Trustees met on Thursday evening. The most important business ■Has an application from Mr. W. C. Davics, of the Agricultural School, for a grant in aid. The trustees, while sympathising with the movement, were unable at present to allocate any of their funds for the institution. Our hockey girls were again victorious in their match with the Carterton team, scoring 7 to nil. This is the more pleasing aa they were promised o. "'hot" time by their opponents, but our "Ironsides" have proved too much for any team yet opposed to them, The Greytown Debating Society had a good night on Thursday, when Mr. A. B. Chatters, M.A., gave an address on "The Defence of New Zealand." In a comprehensive lecture, he detailed the action of several of the more important foreign Powers in their forward movements as compared with the British nation He advocated compulsory military training as against the voluntary'system. In reply to a question, ho pointed out that the school system was compulsory, as also the Shopkeepers' Act, and many others; yet wo were tho freest nation in the world, llis address was loudly applauded. It will possibly bo repeated in tho Public Hall. On tho motion of Mr. Mark Maxton, as vice-president, a hearty \oto of thanks «&•■> accorded Mr. Chariora, and a hope was oxprowed that tho leoturjs wpujd be repeated.
