"TRADE FAIRLY GOOD."
A LABOUR VIEW. The Labour Journal for June, published to-day, in reporting on Wellington, describes trado during the past month as "fairly good, and in tho building trades generally a decided iinnrovoinont has been' shown." Referring to the unskilled labour martyr, the report states that duriug the May t nod there was little demand for unskille i labourers. Private rmployment was also not as freely off ei ed as dur- j ing the past threo months, but there was ' a small demand for competent ploughmen. ' The co-operative works are now fully ' manned, and it is not likely that any men ■will be taken on for some time. About seven hundred men applied for work dur ing the month, and, of this number, 182 were assisted, comprising the following tradesmen and others :— Bricklayers, cabinetmakers, carpenters and joiners, cooks, coopers, farm hands, painters, hotel-work-ers, station hands, and labourers."
