SUPPOSED ATTEMPTED ARSON.

What was apparently a deliberate attempt to burn down Winter's store and bakery was made yesterday morning, it was found in the morning that during the night someone had ignited sheets of paper covering goods. The paper all burnt "out and the woodwork caught, but, owing to tho absence of air in the boxed-in space, it went out. The only access to the spot was by a small hole made in a pane of glass. Had tho fire gone ahead, all tho block to Oman's Hotel mv.st have gone. There is no clue. Mr. Winter had small insurances on a heavy stock.
