LICENSES IN KING COUNTRY.
At a meeting of the Star of Newtown Lodge, 1.0. G.T., held last evening, the folloving motion was moved by Bro. CJreig, ami carried unanimou&ly : —•"That this meeting of the Star of Newtown Lodgo of the International Order of Good Templars protests against tlie issuing of licenses for the public sale ot' alcoholic liquors in the King Countiy, believing the granting of such ]ienses to be against the best interests of tho country, and an entire violation of the spirit" and letter of the treaty entered into with the Maoris," At the meeting of the Wellington South No-license League, held on Wednesday night, the following motion was carried : — "That this meeting of Die Wellington South No-license League deploies Ihe granting of wholesale licenses for the rale of liquor in tho King Country. It regards it as> a scandalous breach of faith with tho Maori chiefs, at whose earnest entreaty the sale of liquor was prohibited in the district, and trusts tha;, the Government will take immediate eto»s to prevent the threatened wronc boinsr carried into effect."'
