SENIOR. yirst Division. Good 'Soccer" play was to a very large extent spoilt on Saturday by the fierce wind. The Basin Reserve and Newtftwn Park matches had to be transferred to Miramar owing to the web condition of the grounds. An impression was abroad that these two senior matches, which were to be played in the city, had been postponed altogether, but when the Basin Reserve and Newtown Park are not available, the matches are transferred, by a fixed arrangement, to Miramar grounds. The results of Saturday's senior first division matches were as follow .-- V.M.C.A. 2 v. Swifts 1. Rovers defeated Thistle by default. St. John's 5 v. Wanderers 1. Petone S v. Ramblers 3. At the present time Diamonds axe leading for championship honours, with six points, and V.M.C.A. come next with five. V.M.C.A. (2) v. SWIFTS (1). V.M.C.A. defeated Swifts at Miramar by two goals to one after a very even game, but jjood play was rendered well nigh impossible oy the fierce wind that swept over the grounds. Timperley (V.M.C.A.) drew first blood five minutes after commencement of play, and in another five minutes Swifts had equalised matters through the agency of Sparrow. Thenceforward play was desultory and ineffectual. In the second spell W. Gibson scored another for V.M.C.A., making the score 2—l,2 — 1, at which the game closed. Hollis, Dyke, W. Gibson, and Timperley played well for V.M.C.A., while Sparrow, Robinson, and Scott did good service for Swifts. The latter team was without the cervices of Kerschbcrg. Mr. i. Davidson was referee. ROVERS v. THISTLE. Thistle defaulted to Rovers at Miramar. Rovers had a full team and Thistle eight men. The ground is said to have been in good condition, but tho high wind and paticity of players determined the action of Thistle. ST. JOHN'S (5) v. WAKDEBERS (1). The restilt of this match was the surprise of the day, St. John's, a last year's second division team, defeating Wanderers by five goals to one. N© score at all was registered in the first spell, and real work was not effected till well into the second spell. Ferguson, for St. John's, after some brilliant play, secured four goals, and the other went through off a defender. Ash drew blood for Wanderers. Lindlay, Ferguson, Moore, and Scholefield played most soundly for the "Saints," while Bradbury, Asii, Hatcher, and Irvine were perhaps the best of the Wanderers. Mr. J. P. Paton was referee. PETONE (5) v. RAMBLERS (3). Petone defeated Ramblers at Petone by five goals to three. Wright, scored a neat goal for Petone early in the game, and Edwards secured a penalty goal for Ramblers, through Renai handling the ball. Another shot by Ingham (Petone) made the score 2—l.2 — 1. Edwards then equalised for Ramblers with a penalty shot, Renai again being the offender. Ball (2) and Richmond added to Petone' 5 score, and Wills put in another shot for Ramblers, 5—3.5 — 3. SECOND DIVISION. V.M.C.A. defeated Letter Carriers by 7 goajs to 2. Hoosan (2), Self (2), Mucklin (2), and King (1) scored for the winners. Petone defaulted to Porirua. Porirua United B won from Swifts by default. Porirua United A won from Petone by default. Diamonds defeated Mental Hospital by 3 goals to 1. Fitzgerald, C. Collins, and Lowe scored- for the visitors, and Conrick for the losers. Rovers defeated Maris't Brothers by 1 goal to nil. St. John's defeated Wanderers by 3 goals to 1.
