IMPOST ON FOREIGN BEER.

EXCISE DUTIES. THE NEW LICENSE SYSTEM. ! j LONDON, 11th May. The House of Commons yesterday co'asideied the liquor resolution contained in I the Budget, covering forty items in Ifh>.e Excise duties. Ihere was an animated discussion, on the lines of criticisms in recent speeches and in communications to the press. Ihe Opposition warmly resented attempts made by the Government to apply the closure, and thus terminate the debate. The Chnncsllor of the Excheqa &v, Mr. Lloyd-George, announced that he was considering a new scheme of lv/J.-el and giocers' licenses. Jn defending Iho new bi ewers' licenses — which hithevfo have been issued at a fee of £1 a year — he stated that henceforth there would be a charge of 2|d per barrel of 36 gallons, whereas the brewer's profit \rcas 10s to 14s per barrel.
