SUPERANNUATION.

At the April meeting of the Public Service Superannuation Board, a number of claims were considered and allowed. The claim of a widow whose husband had been retired as medically unfit for further service, was enquired into, and upon the opinion of the Crown Law Officers on the case it was decided that under section 32, subsection (c) of the Consolidated Act of 1908, the widow was only entitled to a refund of her husband's contributions and the compensation he was entitled to at the time of his death. A question arose, on a claim being made for a refund of fees paid for a medical certificate, and the board decided to adhere to its former resolution that any officers retiring from the service as medically unfit should pay the doctors' fees for examination. An application was received from an officer, who was willing to pay the amount require! under section 50, subsection 2, of the Amending Act of 1908, to enable him to count broken service, provided further time was granted than that allowed by the Act, and it was decided by the board that they had no power to grant the request. The committee appointed by the board to prepare amendments to the regulations, presented their report, and after having been duly considered, they were subject to revision by the Crown Law Officer.

At the monthly meeting of the executive committee of the Brooklyn Municipal Electors' Association there were'present — Messrs. J. C. Brown (in the chair), Almao, Gellert, T. Graham, Parsons, Hopkirk, Waldie, and O'Connor. Satisfaction was expressed at the return of four members on the "ticket" supported by the combined ratepayers' as sociations of the outlying portions of the city at the recent municipal election, and it was thought that more consideration would be given to the needs of such districts in future. The meeting was specially pleased at the election of a local resident (Mr. G. Frost). It was decided to bring under notice the followin" requirements of the district : A horse-trough on the Ohiro-road at corner of Todman-street ; a properly-formed track from Box Hill, also from the bottom of W T ashington-avenue to the tramline ; asphalting the Ohiro and ■ Bell roads, as well as Cleveland-street; forming of footpatli and channelling in Apuka-street ; metalling the streets with a better class of rock than at present used ; better street lighting ; a recreation ground for Brooklyn ; and that streets be named and the houses in the district numbered. It was decided to request Councillor Frost to enquire as >to the fate of the money earmarked for completion of the Happy Valley-road.
