Americans are operating very largely. EXPORTS FOR APRIL A NOTABLE INCREASE. The Industries and Commerce Depart- . meat has issued a statement of exports tior the month of April, and tho total •'value of the chief items of exports amounts to £1,552,755, an increase of ' foyer £400;000 for the month, compared with April of 1908. The values of- the principal' products exported from NewZealand as a whole, compared' -vftifib.. the figures for April, 1908, are as foliovr: —
There are fallings off in hemp of from £34,222 to £23,518, and in tow from. £2514 to £1179. Poultry and rabbits ymake no appearance in the returns this month. Potatoes make a showing of £122, whereas the export for April, 1908, was ! £129 — practically no difference. All j i other staple products show, as seen ! above, satisfactory increases. The exports of butter are as follow : — i -New Plymouth, £44,045; Auckland, £21,660; Wellington, £19,335. 'Cheese: Patea, £43,857; rnvercargill, £36,806; New Plymouth, £22,098;" Wellington, £19,335. Skins: Lyttelton, £19,197; Wellington, £9803; Gisbome, £8329. Hides: Wellington, £4534 ; Dunedin, £1926 ; Napier, £1335. Tallow: Wellington, £13,363; Napier, £6159; Lyttelton, £5977; Auckland, £5804. Wool: Wellington, £101,599; Lyttelton, £88,341; Timaru, £60,585; Oamaru, £56,731 ; Gisborne, £35,034 ; Napier, £27,984. Auckland dispatched £77,956 in gold ; Greymouth, £19,040 ; and Dunedin, £14,101.
