W. 3 1 ' Cardie, M.L.C., returned from Auckland last night. The Hon. R. M'Nab returned from South by the Pateena this morning. * The Hons. A. T. Ngnta and J E. Jenkinson arrived from South this morning. Mr. A. R. Hislop, secretary of the Institute of Marine 'Engineers, left for the South last night. The Hon. J. E. Jenkinson, M.L.C., arrived from Christchurch by the Pateena this morning. Among the passengers from the South by tho Pateena to-day were Dr. Giesen. and the Revs. Gray and Spencer. Mr. G. R. H. Ibbetson, of the District •Roads Department, has been admitted to the hospital for treatment of his left eye." Mr.'E. C. E. Mills, managing director of E. W. Mills and Co., left Wellington yesterday for London, via Canada and America. Mr. Frank Reed, Inspecting Engineer Mines Department, lias been elected a member of the Institution of Mining and Metallurgy, London. Mr. Cyril G. Collins, of the Audit Department, recently transferred to Auckland; "has been appointed Audit Inspector for that district. Mr. D. -Hamilton, an old member of Jupp J s 'Band, was presented by tho band last slight with a mark of esteem on the occasion of his marriage. Mr. 'W. Pryor, secretary of the New Zealand Employers' Federation, left yesterday for Gisborne, where he will appear for the employers in the painters' dispute. iMrs. T. M. Wilford will leave for the Old Country about the end of July, accompanied by her son, Master G. M. Wilford, who is going Home to study engineering. Mr. A. iM. Burns, sub-editor of the Christchurch Press, who returned from the North last night, left this morning for Gisborne. He will return to Wellington on Friday. The Very Rev. Father Kcogh, rector of St. Patrick's College — who is to take charge of the Catholic parish of Hastings — will leave Wellington for his new sphere of labour at the end of next month. Captain -England, late commander of the Nimrod, is confined to his room through indisposition. Ho intended to leave Christchurch for Eugland by the s.s. (Buteshire, but his voyage has been postponed. Mr. C. M. Gray, chairman of the Finance Committee of the Christchurch Tramways Board, formerly M.P. for Christchurch North, who is on a visit to Wellington, will probably return to the South to-morrow. Professor Patterson, late principal in the Madras University, who visited New Zealand last year, intends to return to this country at the year end. He- is desirous of settling where his children can attend a High School Mr. A. B. Wright; Roads Engineer for the Auckland district, has been appointed Inspecting Engineer of Roads. He leaves this evening for Wellington, to take up his new duties. Mr. Wright has been in the service for thirty-two years. flis Excellency the Governor left today for Waiouru, whence ho and his party will go across country for a week's fatay at Tokaanu. On tho 19th he will open the Art Society's show ;\t Auckland, and, after fulfilling other public duties in the 'Northern city, leave on the 27th inst. in H.M.S. Challenger, on a visit to the Cook Group. (He will return to 'New Zealand on 17th June.
