MINING NEWS.

THE GRAND JUNCTION. DEVELOPMENT .WORKS. £By Tblrgeaph.— Spemal to The Post.] WAIHI, This Day. Development works in the Grand Junction mine are being followed with close interest. The fact that the Empire reef should be intersected at No. 5 level (about equivalent to the 1000 feet level in the Waihi mine), being largely responsible. The south-east crosscut to intersect the lode in question is close out to the point where the management expect to come into contact with the lode, and as a fair amount of water is coming away from the face of the reef, it would seem that the drills may come into contact with the ore body at any time now. The winzes on the Empire and Royal reefs from No. 4 level continue to disclose good grade dirt going down. WAIHI EXTENDED. There is nothing fresh to report in connection with the ore body met with in the south-east crosscut from No. 5 level in the Waihi Extended mine a few days ago. The reef is generally believed to be a "stringer," but nothingwill be done to determine its identity and the value of the discovery until the pressure of water met with wheu the lode was cut eases off. THE KARANGAHAKE. I am informed that the body of quartz recently met with on the surface of the Karangahake Company's property (Karangahake), near the Comstock ground, is to be followed down some distance by a winze to ascertain the width and value of the lode, with depth. On the surface the reef is said to be about four feet wide, showing some rather good-looking ore, giving nice prospects in the dish.
