The Australian cricketers secured an easy victory in the first match of their tour, played against a Nottinghamshire eleven at the Trent Bridge ground iv the county town. The match was concluded to-day, the visitors winning by an innings and six runs. At the close of play on Friday the position was : Australia, first innings, 389 ; Nottingham, first innings 239, second innings two wickets for 58. For the conclusion of the match today the weather was delightful, and the attendance good. The home team made a poor showing in their second appearance at the wickets. Layer was not fielding, owing , to a slight strain, a substitute taking his place. On the county's second innings being resumed, Hardstaff, the not-out man overnight, was clean bowled by Armstrong. Payton, before scoring, gave a chance to Whitty at mid-off, off Cotter. The fourth wicket fell for 81, and the sixth for 97. The century was hoisted after 140 minutes' play. Allertson batted for twenty-five minutes, his score including two 6's. He drove Whitty over the ring to long-on, and lifted Armstrong out of the ground to square-leg.
