BRADFORD "TOPS.
LONDON, 7th May. The Bradford "tops" market is very firm, and the high prices ruling are checking business. Common 40's are quoted at 13d per lb ; 46's, 15d ; common 60's, 26d ; super 60"s, 27d ; 64's, 28d. (Received May 8, 10.40 a.m.) LONDON, 7th May. The wool market shows great animation. There is strong American competition for all sorts. The New Zealand Loan and Mercantile Agency Company, Ltd., has received the following cablegram from its London house under yesterday's date :—: — "Wool. — As compared with last sales' closing rates prices are about 10 per cent, higher for greasy merino super, 5 per cent, to 7£ per cent higher for merino scoured and medium . greasy merino, about the same for faulty descriptions. Sales gain firmness as they progress. ' ' Dalgety and Company, Ltd., Wellington, nave, received the following advices by cable from London, dated 6th instant: — "The wool sales continue firm, with an upward tendency. Prices for merino wools are at par to 5 per cent, higher, except for short and faulty deBcriptions, which are unchanged. American buyers are operating freely. Merino and crossbred wools, forties and over, and wools suitable for America are 10 to 15 per cent, higher as compared with the olosmg rates of tho March series. The advance in prices is very marked in the case of crossbred wools of medium quality.
