BIG FIRE.

OXFORD UNIVERSITY PRESS STORES BURNT. By Telegraph.— Press Association.—Copyright, (Received May 8, 8.10 a.m.) LONDON, 7th May. The Oxford University Press premises in Aldersgate-street, London, have been burnt. The damage done amounts to thirty thousand pounds. The building destroyed must not be confounded with the historic printinghouse and type foundry, the most ancient in the kingdom, and one of the oldest in the world, the loss of which would be an irreparable disaster. This is situated at Oxford, and forms part of the University buildings. It is the London warehouse from which the publications of the University are distributed that has been burned. The London agency was carried on up to 1874 by Messrs Macmillan and Co., but in that year a special branch was established in the metropolis which has been ever since conducted by Mr. Henry Frowde.
