» [BY TEIiEGBAPH — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] AUCKLAND, This Day. In the Police Court to-day William Wilson, Thomas Costello, Wm. Henry Chamberlain, and Frank' Brown, labouring men, were charged with having carrred on "tote" betting at the, East EHersKe races. All pleaded guilty, and each was fined £3 and costs. Thomas Fanning, charged with receiving, and William Harris, with the theft of, a purse containing £40, belonging to Mrs. H. L. James, a lady passenger on the night express from Auckland to Wellington, were remanded to Taumarunui.
