BOXING ASSOCIATION.

A special meeting of the Wellington Boxing Association was held last night, Mr, R. W. M-Villy presiding. A letter was read from the New Zealand Council in regard to tho proposed visit of T. Burns. It was decided to reply that if tho association's officers are called on to perform any services in connection wilh the visit they should bo recompensed for their troublo It v\ as_ resolved thai nominations for the provincial championships shall close on 3rd June. In the course of some remarks ao to the petition of the association, the chairman spic! the association was not the big fat concern that it mis believed to bo. While it earned a great deal of money, it also circulated almost as much. Tho members of the association were going to a preal deal of trouble for pure love of tho sport. Their policy was to put beforo tho public the best talont they could get, and they were not, as an association, going to dnig down the sport by arranging or permitting third-rate contests. There was no question that by their operations the .sport had been elevated, and it would not now be in tho position it was had they departed at any time from their present policy and allowed indiscriminate displays to be given. The chairman's remarks were endorsed by other members of tho association and approved unanimously.
