FOOTBALL

Followers of the Rugby game have a choice of two attractions to-morrow — the Orienial-St. James match at the Athletic Park, or the Petone-Poneke game at Petone. This is the third week of the championship games, and of these four teams, Oriental alone has lost a match. The St. James team have not shown any brilliant form as yet, but in keeping with their past record — that of playing better against the stronger teams — it is expected that the meeting with Oriental will provide a fast open game. For visitors to Petone there are two trains, one from 'Lambton at 2.10, and one from Te Aro 2.10, Lambton 2.20, the former being a special arranged by the union. After the display by Petone last Saturday their chances of championship honours seem very bright, and their meeting with Poneke should provide a good game, the winner of which will undoubtedly be somewhere near the top at the end of the season. It is doubtful whether Frank Mitchinson will play, he having sustained an injury while playing on Saturday last. A match under Australian rules will be played on the Basin Reserve between a local team and the men from H.M.S. Challenger.
