A Dunedin Press Association telegram states that the coroner found that the death of Andrew Kerr, an accountant, was tile result of corrosive sublimate poisoning, self-administered while insane. Sitting in cliambers to-day, Mr. Justice Cooper granted letters of administration in the estates of the following : —Alfred George Loosemore, Edward Thos. Coumbe, and Francis Jas. Driscoll, all victims of the'late Penguin disaster. Probate was also granted of the wilL of Walter Stanley Rintoul, third engineer of the Penguin, on the application of Mr. J. W. Macdonald, who appeared on behalf of the Public Trustee. In the cases of Loosemore, Coumbe. and Driscoll special affidavits had to be filed by the Public Trustee, showing the probability of death, as the bodies had not been recovered. Dr .Mason (Chief Health Officer) received a telegram from the Mayor of Gisborne this morning, informing him that all his suggestions in connection with the sanitation of the town would be given effect to. Gisborne's turn of typhoid has created general alarm there, and there are still 29 cases under treatment. It is proposed to close up old wells, make better provision for drainage, with a view to a permanent scheme, and to generally put the town on a better sanitary footing than it has hitherto occupied It is intended to bring over to New Zealand for burial the body of the late Mr. C. Hudson, Commi&sioner of New Zealand Railways. Enquiries made to-day showed that nil was as well as could be expected at the quarantine station.
