Mr. L. Birks, engineer, of Rotorua, js at present in Wellington. Mr. George Wright, Dannevirke, will sit on thp Hawkcs Bay Land Board as Government nominee. Dr. Earle, who resigns the position of port medical officer ,at Wanganui at the end of this month, will be succeeded by Dr. J. M'Naughton Christie. Messrs. E. W. Hunt and C. J. Salter (Wellington) and E. J. Harvey (Blenheim) ha-ve been appointed public auditors under the Friendly Societies Act. Cabled information has been received, stating that Mr. Roy M. Muir, of Wellington, who arrived in England in February last, has pa&sed his first medical examination. Mr J. M. A. Ilott leaves by the Maheno to-day for an extended visit to Australia. He goes to Sydney, Melbourne, and Adelaide. Miss I. Coulthard, of the Government Insurance Department, who is leaving the service to be *married, was to-day the recipient of a handsome present from her fellow officers. The presentation was made by the commissioner. The Gazette notifies that the following have been appointed officiating ministers under the Marriage Act: — The Rev. J. R. Burgin (Anglican), the Rev. W. J. Saunderson (Roman Catholic), and the Revs. T G. Butler and W. S. Fernie (Congregational). Op severing his connection with the Union Clothing Company (after 17 years' service), Mr. F. Sinclair and 'Miss Sinclair, of Wellington, who have b^eu on a visit to Europe, returned $o (Australia by the Bremen, and came on to New Zealand by the Riverina on (Wednesday. Mr Sinclair bad been absent from the Old Country for forty y.-ars. Mr. A. G. Marshall, of the WestportStockton Coal Company, is to succeed Mr. Tennant (who retires on superannuation) a* Inspector of Mines at Westport. Mr. Marshall has been some years in the employ of the company named, and was formerly with the Westport Coal Company. Cowan, who for the past 14 years has been railway stationmaster at Petone — a position which he has filled with great success — was presented ?esfcerday, on the eve of ms departure or Ashbxirton, with a silver-mounted umbrella, as a mark of regard from the railway workshops employees.
