SHAKSPEARE CLUB.

IN NEED OF FUNDS. Mr. J. W. Joynt presided at the annual meeting of the Wellington Shakspeare Club last evening. There was a large attendance of members. The annual report of the club showed that during the six years of the club's existence a play had been studied every three months, and then read by capable casts. It was proposed to study and read this season "Hamlet" and "A Winter's Tale." The balance-sheet showed a deficit of £3 18s 2d, with £7 outstanding lor unpaid subscriptions. In moving the adoption of the report . and balance-sheet, Mr. Joynt expressed the view that the club was increasing what he might term the intellectual stock of the city. He made out a strong case for additional assistance, and especially emphasised the need of regular attendance at the weekly meetings of the club. As for the deficit, the only way to wipe that out was to increase the membership. It was a matter for regret that there should be an item of £7 for outstanding subscriptions. Mr. P. P. Webb seconded the' adoption of the report, which was confirmed, and it was decided to raise the subscription to 7s 6d. The follow ing^officers were elected :—: — Patrons, Sir Robert Stout and the Hon. Dr. Findlayj {resident, Mr. H. E. Nicholls; vice-presidents, Misses England, Maltby, Holmes, Mrs. Baldwin, Messrs. J.
