In the comse of his letter the Commissioner said : — "Since writing to you on the 12th inst., I have received from a gentleman who had dealings with the pensioner a full account in writing of the transaction, which is satisfactory to the dopartment and effectively disposes of the statements made as to the cliarging of usurious interest. This ends the matter, as far as the department is concerned, and the current month's instalj ment is now available for collection at the Wellington paying office. In conclusion, I respectfully beg to submit that, if in the future statements are made traversing the administration of thi3 department, it would be wiser if the department were consulted as to the •natter before particulars are given to the pi ess."
