In response he expresbed a hope that somebody else might have been able to take up the position during the next twelve months. During the past five years as chairman of the trustees, he had always endeavoured to do his best for the interests of the institution and the community as a whole He had no personal ambition in the matter. Mr. J. Daiiks was re-elected treasurer. The chairman, the treasurer, and Messrs. London and Nash were appointed a Finance Committee. The in-patients at the general hospital for the fortnight, compared with those for the corresponding period of 1908, figures for which are in parentheses, numbered as follows : — Generai Hospital 185 (196), Victoria Hospital 37 (37), Seddon Hospital 20 (20) ; total, 242 (255). The receipts from out-patients amounted to £21 3s, and from in-patients £149 16s. The monthly accounts for November were £891, and for December £1211. FEVER HOSPITAL. The trustees conferred with their architect (Mr, Crichton, of Crichton and M'Kay), in committee, on the proposed fever hospital. The architects submitted three schemes for the hospital in question, accompanied by sketch plans, and the details were as follow : — Complete scheme : Scarlet fever wards, 36 beds ; measles wards, 18 beds ; diphtheria wards, 9 beds ; and isolated ward, 3 beds ; total, 66 beds. Also administrative and other blocks in this and in other cases, the cost equalling £288 per bed ; total cost, £19,000. Modified bcheme : Scarlet fever 35 beds ; diphtheria, 9 beds ; isolation, 3 beds ; total, 48 beds, or £322 per bed ; total cost, £15,500. Further modified scheme : Scarlet fever, 36 beds ; isolation, ,3 beds; total, 39 beds; cost to equal £340 per bed ; total cost, £13,200. These figures, it was pointed out, compared more than favourably with the cost of similar institutions in England, which ranged from £300 to £600 per bed. Each block had been designed absolutely plain, with no unnecessary ornament. The trustees decided to meet again on Thursday next at the Hospital, at 2.30 p.m., to go fully into the matter with the architects and the District Health Officer (Dr. J: P. Frengley).
