MANAWATU COMPANY'S STAFF.
■PRESENTATIONS TO' EXECUTIVE . OFFICERS. This afternoon Mr. Hannay (general manager) and Mr. Majoribanks (chief engineer), of the Manawatu Railway Company, received souvenirs of their long service from Mr. J. Kirk'caldie, qh behalf of the staff as a whole and the company. Referring to this matter this morning, Mr. KirkcaMie said that it gratifieS him to know that tho Government had very considerately agreed to absorb the whole of the company's staff, with two exceptions, into the railway service of New Zealand, bnt he very much regretted, personally, and for New Zealand's sake, that the two chief executive officers, Messrs. Hannay and Majoribanks, constituted the exceptions. H« was very sorry that such efficient professional service shonlcl be. lost to tho conntry.
