In connection with tho scene in the House of Commons, caused by Mr. Victor Graysou, member for Colne Valley, insisting on speaking on the question of unemployment when the Licensing Bill was under discussion in committee, and which led to his being '.'named" and suspended, it transpires that when Mr. Emmott (Deputy Speaker and Chairman of Ways and Means) "named" him, Mr. Grayson retorted : — "You may name, but cannot shame me." After the Speaker had been summoned, the suspension was voted, and Mr. Grayson was ordered to leave the Cham. ber. He continued in his attempts to speak, and shouted : "I leave this House with pleasure. I feel that in leaving I gain dignity." He then turned to quit, but, retracing his steps, said : — "This House is a House of murderers." Mr. Grayson then left his seat, and disappeared from view. The sentence of suspension will last for the entire session unless it is rescinded. , ) On the previous day, Mr. Grayson, who is a Socialist, had 'to be removed from the House by th© Sergeant-at-Arms for refusing to obey the Speaker's ruling—that he must not speak on the question of unemployment, as the Licensing Bill was the matter before the House.
