The Bank of England discount rate \is 2i per cent., to which it was reduced on 29th May. . Short loans are quoted ,in London at •J per cent., a rise of £ per cent, on the week. Three months' bills ara quoted in London at 1 7-16, a, fall of 1-lb on the week. The rate in Paris is 24 per cent., and :n: n Berlin 34 per cent. COLONIAL AND OTHER PRODUCE. Wheat.— -Higher American quotations, and the outbreak of cholera in Russia, which has led to Russian shipmentb being quarantined at most European ports, have caused a general hardening of 'he wheat markets. There is good demand for prompt delivery and for new crop shipments. Six thousand tons of New South Wales December- January shipment, p&r steamer, sold at 36s 6d. There is quiet trade in Australian spot lots at 40s 6d to 41s. Seven thousand five hundred quarters of Adelaide September shipment sold at 395, and 12,000 quarters of Adelaide or Victorian December-January at 37s 6d. According to "Bradslreet's" estimate the visible supply oKwheat east of the Rockies is 39,855,000 bushels. Flour. — Tho market is rather firmer, but inactive. Australian patent soits are quoted in London at 25s to 25s 6d. -Butter.— The market is dull, but prices are unchanged. There is no colonial butter oSering'. Sugar.— German beet, .4d higher at 10s per owt ; first marks, ia higher at 12s 2d. Wool.— The Bradford tops market is quiet, and late prices are barely maintained. At the Antwerp wool sales three was a good attendance. Prices for merinos were unchanged, and firm. Crossbred? were generally dearer. Out of 2710 bales of La Plata, 419 were sold. PRICES OF METALS. Copper. — On the spot, 12s 6d lower at £59 15s per ton ; three months, 10s lower at £60 12s 6d. Tin.— Spot, 30s higher at £132 per ton; three months, 35s higher at £133 10s. Spelter, £19 10s per ton. The brokers (Levin and Co., Ltd., Dalgety and Co., Ltd., Murray Robeirts and Co. Ltd., Abraham and >,\ T illiams, Ltd., and tho Loan and Mercantile, Ltd.) held their usual fortnightly auction of tho above yesterday, when fair catalogues were submitted to a good attendance of buyers. , Generally competition was keen for everything except skins, which were somewhat easier. Quotations : Wool — Medium crossbred, 4d to 5Ad per I lb ; inferior, 2d to 4d ; lambs' w 001, 4d jto sd ; pieces and locks, Id to 3id ; good I crutehings, 3£d to 33d ; medium crutch- ; ings, 2jjd to 3gd ; seedy and inferior, lJ>d to 2|d. Skins — Fine crossbreds, 5d to 6d per lb ; crossbred, 4d to s^d ; dead skina, 2d to 3^d; dead hoggets, 2d to 3id ; dry pelts, Id to 2£d ;_ green skins, 2s 6d to 4s each; lamb skins, 5d to 8d each.
