HOCKEY.

The members of the V.M.C.A. Hockey Club met at the rooms last night to present to Mr. A. J. P. Brittain, the club captain, a token of esteem on the eve of his approaching marriage. Mr. H. N. Holmes presided and congratulated Mr. Brittain on behalf of the association and wished him every prosperity and happiness. Mr. H. Osborne (physical chairman) and the refcp'ective captains also spoke, after which Mr. R. H. Parton (secretary of the club) handed to Mr. Brittain a handsome set of carvers and a bread knife and fork, at the same time referring to the good feeling existing between the guest and the members. The recipient suitably replied and expressed the wish that success should attend the efforts of the club. Wanganui's representatives defeated Hawkes Bay at Wanganui yesterday by 1 goal to nil. The Auckland Ladies' Hockey Association will not _ participate in the tournament at Wellington next month.
