ST. JAMES'S CHURCH.
The annual meeting of tho congregation of St. James's Presbyterian Church was held last night in the schoolroom, Ade-laide-road. The attendance was not quito up to tho usual standard, owing to the wet weather. Tho Rev W. Shirer presided. The report, which had been for somo time in tho hands of members, and which has already boen summarised in The l >ost > was adopted ;' also tho balance-sheet, v Davidson, session clerk, spoko on tho subject of the general progress of the church, and Mr A. J. Rand gave details as to tho proposed additional Sundaysohool building, now urgently required. To this purpose £150 had already been subscribed by the office-bearers, twentythree in number, and £91 by thirty members of tho church. Ho impressed on members tho necessity for united effort, in which case the work could ba completed by tho end of tho year without any serious increase of dobl. Refreshments were handed round, and a musical programme, arranged by Mr. Barrett, organist, w*s contributed by Misßes Duck and Francis and Mr. Pope, besides anthems by tho choir. Votes of thanks were passed, the services of the pa«tov and hia ■wife receiving special recognition ; also the work of Mr 11. Davidson as superintendent of tho Sunday-Bchool, on the occasion of L!s retirement «fter holding' offico for more than twenty years.
