DISTRICT HOSPITAL BOARD.

Mr. J. P. Luke presided at the meeting of the Wellington District Hospital Board this morning. There were also present — Messrs. R. C. Kirk, J. W. M'Ewan, and C. J. Crawford. Tho credit balance in. bank was reported to be £3054 10s 13 d, and accounts , amounting to £1889 were passed for payment. The matron of Otaki Sanatorium reported that during July three patients were admitted and four discharged. There are eleven females and eleven males under treatment. Three of thoso discharged ./are practically well, and able to tako up t'» lr usual work. Although four tons of ooal arc consumed per month (practically all in the kitchen range) the •water in the bathroom and over sinks is •never really hot. Two new lights have 'been put up outside the building, and are a great convenience. The report was adopted, and it was decided that the board , make an inspection with a view to introducing better means for heating tho water ;in the batlyoom and over sinks.

The tenth anniversary of the Missions to Seamen will be -celebrated on Sunday and Monday -next. Messrs. A. L. Wilson advertise in our - auction f columns particulars of a sale of »furniture.*to.be held at 24, Hobson-street, to-morrow at 2 o'clock ; also details of a sale in their rooms on Friday next, at 1.30, when they sell the contents of a 7icomed bouse, together .with a quantity of -.other furniture. Messrs T. Kennedy Macdonald, Ltd , .sell to-morrow, at 2 o'clock, on tho ground, late old Occidental Hotel, corner L&mb- - ton-quay and Johnsfcon-streot, a quantityvof building timber comprising toijara, rimu, kauri, galvanised iron, windows, verandahs, posts, joiste, etc. The firm also insert an ■-advertißemen.t of the- sale by auction of 10O| oil and water colour paintings by Mr. W. G. Baker. The sale will be held on Mon--day next, at 2 o'clook. The auctioneers -state that the pictures comprise every spot ,in New Zealand of-speoial ecenic interest,, and will be on view from to-morrow.
