LEVIN'S WATER SUPPLY.

(By Telegbaph. — Special to The Post.] LEVIN, 18tli August. After about three weoks of continuous frosts the weather broke yesterday about midday and a good rain set in from the north. A great many residents of Lc\in were reduced to only a few rings in their tanks, and had recourse to the water-races for washing purpo.ses. Their supply of water should now be ample, as the rain is steadily falling, with no sign of clearing. Grass was looking quite brown and burnt with the heavy frosts and strong sun. Farmers, especially those who have finished their ploughing, will be rejoicing in tne good rain. To be short oi water during winter is certainly a new experience for Levin folk and should prove a. splendid advertisement for the Council's high, pressure water scheme. The poll for tho loan of £10,000 is to take place on Monday next, and as an tl»o previous instance should be carried by a large majority. Though the council has had to take the poll again this has not interfered in any way with the progress of ' the work, which is being pushed on with all speed. Messrs. John Duthie's tender for about seven miles of pipes was accepted subject to the loan proposal being passed. Tho cost of this will be nearly £2000.
