CHELTENHAM HOTEL BURNED.
NARROW ESCAPES. [BT TELEGBAPH. — PBESS ASSOCIATION.] FEILDING, This Day. The Cheltenham, Hotel, owned by Mr. E. Riddiford, and leased by Mr. S. W. R. kKvans, was totally destroyed by fire at I 2 30 o'clock this morning. The only occupants were Mr. Evans and his wife and child, and one boarder. They had a narrow escape, only getting out with their nighclothes on. The origin of the fir© is unknown. The adjoining buildings, including a general store and post office, were saved with difficulty Tho building, a largo two-storey one, was burnt to the ground in fifteen minutes. Tho insurances are not available. Mr. Evans ia very well known in the district as a football referee.
