NEW ROTORUA BATHHOUSE.

OFFICIAL OPENING. [BY TXLBGBATH. — PBES* ASSOCIATION.] ROTORUA, 15th August. Sir Joseph _ Ward opened the new bathhouse, which has been erected in the sanatorium grounds. Having_ opened rhe door, with a_ jrolden key, Sir Joseph Ward, accompanied by the official party, ascended the Dalcony, where ho delivered an address. The Premier, in the course of his i-e-marks, gave figures illustrative of *be progress of Rotorua as follows: — During the last five years the gross receipts to the Government from Rotorna hava increased 153 per oent. The population has risen from 900 to 2000; the nu "*-~- of houses from 96 to over 500, inclnl_ng business premises. The total receipts since 1902 were £43,282, and during the same period tho bath receipts were £16,611. The building contains the last word of science in the electrical massage and other methods of treating disease. At present the town has an elootriq lighting at a cheaper rate than Wellington. During five years the Government has paid £21,253 into the town account. "Rotorua," he said, "is unique inasmuch as it belongs to the people and is managed by a State Department. I trust the building I am opening may prove a success, both as a pleasure resort and a place where pain will be alleviated and sickness cured." (Applause.) On being asked to say a few words, Admiral Sperry thanked Sir Joseph Ward and the New Zealand # people for their hearty welcome, and said that as for the buildinr, he would like to take it away with him. (Laughter and applause.) Sir J. G. Ward then spoke in high terms of praise of the work done by Mr. Donne, Dr. Wohlmann (balneologist), Mr. Corlett and Mr. Trigff (architecte of the building), and Mr. Hutchinson (contractor). Cheers were given, and tho building was then declared opon.
