LAW v. INSURANCE. I Tho annual football match between representatives of the legal profession and insurance was played at the Athletic Park yesterday afternoon before a large number of spectators. There i were two games, senior and junior, and in each Law wa,s victorious. In the senior match the first spell went rather in favour of Insurance, but no score resulted. Law made the game more open in the second half, and there were some pretty flashes of play. Th,e game was fast. Albert Wyfie scored twice," but Lynch and Hatchings failed !to convert. Another try might have been v added from a fine run by Buddie, but.W., Tudhope knocked on at- the last moment. The game ended in a victory for Law by 6 points to nil. The junior match was a close contest. Law won by 6 points to 5.. Afternoon tea was served to the spectators during the match. SMOKE CONCERT. A smoke concert was held in Barrett's Hotel after the match. Mr. J. J. M'Grath presided. The toast-list included "The Law Society," proposed by Mr. C. M. Mohtefiore, response by Mr. F. J. After a hard, fast, and stubbornly-con-tested game, the former won by three unconverted tries to one try. Cook (2) and Sam Cootes scored for the victors, and Mackenzie for the losers. The team remained in Auckland in order to wiew the Fleet festivities. AN APOLOGY ACCEPTED. NAPIER, llth August. The Rovers Football Club (Hastings) have apologised for their action in refusing to play a recent fixture on account of ' their objection to a certain referee. The Hawkes Bay Rugby Union to-night accepted the apology and removed the suspension. The Rovers will be represented in the Hawkes Bay team to meet Horowhenua on Saturday.

The weekly session of ~ the Pioneer Lodge, No. 11, 1.0. G.T., was held in the Rechabite Hall, Planners-street, on Monday night. Bro. J. M. Johnston, C.T., presided. There was a good attendance ol members. One , candidate was readmitted. After the business had been dealt with the lodge was thrown open to visitors. An excellent concert programme, arranged by Sister Staples and Bro. Bruce, was contributed to by Sisters Ryan and . Staples, Miss Meldrum, Mesdames Hearn, Clear, M'Cleur, ■and Bros. Sharp and Moore. During the evening presentations were made to Bros. Atkinson and Brennan.
