M'Kenna, First Lord of the Admiralty, stated that the Australian naval subsidy would cease automatically in 1913, or earlier if the now arrangement foreshadowed at the Imperial Conference was ratified. The Minister added that the scheme put forward by Mr. Beakin, Federal Premier, was at present only a bare outline. It required much amplification before it could be discussed with advantage, while the difficulties inherent in it were very great.
