TO THJI EDITOR.

Sir. — From all accounts the bakers of Wellington are shaking hands with themselves over tho success of the coupon system, and from the remarks of the secretary of th,e Master Bakers' Union, the Wellington public are to congratulate themselves that they are getting concessions not enjoyed by some other cities. This I question very much. They may appear to get a discount of 5 per cent » and would be doing so if they got the full weight specified on the coupon, I have taken the trouble to weigh my bread for a week of seven • days, anil have not had the pleasure of finding one loaf out of the fourteen bought "turn" tha scale at 2ib; one, indeed was 3oz-shor<H others ranged from loz to 2£ozs, and at the end of the week I found that I was just" 28oz short of the true weight. So much for the discount. What large con» sumers must loso it would be hard "to conceive. Have we an inspector -of weights end measures? Tf so, there ia ample work for him in weighing bread at the different carts, and so proteotina the public from fraud. — I am, etc. MOUNT VICTORIAWellington, 21st May. .
