A LECTURE ON " ZOOS."

Rev. D. C. Bates, who has taken such a strong, practical interest in the Newtown "Zoo" gave a chatty lecture in the Concert Chamber of the Town Hall last evening, on wild animals in captivity, referring particularly to the Zoological collection in London and Melbourne. The slides shown wcro from exceptionally fine photographs lent by Mr. W. D. Le Rouef, director of the Melbourne Zoo and Mr. T. A. Arthur, of Rakaia. Mr. J. Macdonald operated the limelight. Tn tho course of his remarks Mi. Batps referred to the Wellington Zoological (Jlarclens, which so fin- as they went, had proved a mo.«t desirable addition to the sights of the city and were a source of revenue for the tramways, which conveyed largo numbers of people to Newtown V:\vU. attiacted there by the animals. He expressed great pleasure that tho City Council had decided to rpend £1000 upon the Zoo.
